Maths Explorers

28th Jun 2021
Since we returned to school after Lockdown, Mr Charlwood, Mrs McKane and Mr Cook have been working hard to develop a Numeracy Recovery Scheme. We are calling it “Maths Explorers”. The Staff were trained in it on our School Closure Day in June.   The pupils in Busy Bees to Primary 3 are working on their Numeracy Skills using a Pirate Explorer theme.   The pupils in Primary 4 to Primary 7 are using a Mountaineer Explorer theme.   Each class has 30 steps to complete their challenge. They will gain a certificate every time they complete 5 steps. For the children in Busy Bees to Primary 3 they will also get a key. When each child has gained six certificates or keys, they have completed their challenge and will get a special reward. The children in Busy Bees to Primary 3 will have enough keys to open the Treasure Chest to share some of the Pirate’s Loot! The children in Primary 4 to Primary 7 will have “climbed” their Mountain. (Slemish for P4, Slieve Donard for P5, Ben Nevis for P6 and Everest for P7) We wanted to launch “Maths Explorers” today and to reward all the children in the school for their hard work in Numeracy throughout this difficult year.   We were delighted that Pirate Trevor was able to come to school to give out the certificates and sweets….. and go down the slide!! Mountaineer Trevor was also able to come straight from climbing Slemish to give the pupils in Primary 4 to 7 their certificates and sweets. We are so proud of all our pupils and delighted that every child in the school achieved a certificate. Well done All! Keep looking on Facebook next year, for regular updates and visits form Pirate Trevor and Mountaineer Trevor to give out more certificates and keys.   We know all our pupils will continue to work very hard to achieve their personal goals in Numeracy!
